The Philippine Consulate General in Guangzhou opened on 23 May 1997 pursuant to the Agreement entered into by the governments of the Republic of the Philippines and the People's Republic of China on 26 November 1996 in Manila. Under the agreement, the consular jurisdiction of the Consulate General covers the Provinces of Guangdong, Hainan and Hunan and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

The services offered by the Consulate General include visa and passport services, notarial, trade, tourism and investment promotion,cultural exchange,and assistance to Filipino Nationals.
