CHINA'S REGULATION FOR FOREIGN STUDENTS

WHO WANT TO STUDY IN CHINA

The People's Republic of China's Ministry of Education has drafted a regulation providing guidelines for primary and middle schools enrolling foreign children who want to study in China.

Primary and Middle schools must obtain approval from the provincial level Department of Education, Foreign Affairs Office, and Public Security Bureau, before they could accept foreign students.

Schools can enroll foreign students who are living with their parents in China on a long-term basis.

Foreign children, who are living temporarily in China, must find Chinese or foreign residents as their guardians if they want to enroll in the primary or middle schools in China. These students should live with their parents or guardians.

Well-equipped schools can open dormitories to foreign students after receiving approval from the authorities.

Students, who intend to study for more than six months in China, should submit their visa applications and school admission notices to the Chinese embassies or consulates in order to obtain their "X " visas. While those, who plan to study in China for less than six months, must apply for their "F" visas.

These students must apply for their residence permits from the Exit and Entry Administration of the local Public Security Bureau, within 30 days upon entering China.

The tuition fees charged by the schools to foreign students are set by the regional education and pricing departments.

Schools will not open "out-of-class courses" for foreign students except for Chinese language classes.

Foreign students can take part in activities organized by the school authorities however, they are exempted in studying political and ethics courses.

Schools will award certificates to students who successfully passed their appropriate examinations.
